Four US Senators are asking Facebook to pull back on a new feature they claim invades the privacy of the popular social network’s 400 Million plus users…

This new feature, recently released by Facebook, shares each of its users personal information with other popular websites, without their permission to do so. Instead of asking its users to ‘opt in’ to this sharing program, Facebook has instead included all of its users and provided an ‘opt out’ feature. They did this, knowing the vast majority of their users would either not know about this program, or would not understand how their personal information is being used. In essence, third party websites who receive this information are using it to tailor their website features to match individual users interests.
Hmmm… Anyone remember Beacon? If this doesn’t get reversed, Facebook is going to create a tidal wave of unsolicited ads, spam, and even online scammers.
