This week, Colorado’s SIPA (Statewide Internet Portal Authority) approved use of Google Apps to public schools for educational purposes. In doing so, teachers will now have the ability to quickly deploy lesson and training information to their students much more quickly through the use of Google Docs, Calendar, Gmail, Groups, etc…
In my opinion, this couldn’t have happened too soon… For one, it’s going to save time, energy and money. Educational information, be it lesson material, changes in scheduling or due dates, to grades, will now be posted in one centralized location, accessible to all students and/or parents. In addition, it enables students to collaborate on, and submit projects online, thus saving paper. This is awesome…
This online platform also provides educators with a new way to challenge their students. By allowing students to work on and revise projects in real time, it’s going to enhance their ability to collaborate with others, provide real time feedback, and review their work before turning it in. Sounds kind of like the real world, huh. These could be among the most valuable skills students learn upon entering the workforce.
Way to go Colorado… Who’s next?
